SUMMARY:LIVITY Groundings Project
DESCRIPTION:Theme: Inclusive\n Approaches to Justice\n\nDate: September 28\, 2022\n\nTime: 10 a.m.\n\nModality: Virtual\n\nThe COVID-19 pandemic laid bare the systemic social and economic inequalities in Caribbean societies. As policymakers shift the conversation to ‘building back better’ and economic recovery\, we believe that it is important to think collectively about a vision of inclusive justice\, particularly for those who have traditionally been left out or underrepresented in policymaking spaces.\n\nThese include women\, members of the LGBTQI community and people living with disabilities (PWDs)\, among others.\n\nThis peer-to-peer learning will be guided by three areas of justice which are of immense importance to the Caribbean at this time:\n\nSocial justice (youth\, labor rights and social protection)\n\nEcological justice (fighting for and protecting the land and seas)\n\nLegal avenues to justice (with special focus on legal and policy frameworks for LGBTQI and disability inclusion)\n\nThis Groundings\, the final one under the LIVITY Project\, will give space for civil society organizations\, policymakers and other interested groups to hear from each other and set the foundation for a shared vision of the way ahead.\n\nAbout the LIVITY Project\n\nThe LIVITY Project is a four-year\, seven-country partnership of the Institute for Gender and Development Studies: Nita Barrow Unit (IGDS: NBU) at The University of the West Indies\, Cave Hill Campus\, the Barbados Council for the Disabled (BCD) and the Eastern Caribbean Alliance for Diversity and Equality (ECADE)\, which is an umbrella Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender and Intersex civil society organization headquartered in St Lucia.\nThe LIVITY project is funded by the European Union and targets Barbados\, Dominica\, St. Vincent and the Grenadines\, Antigua and Barbuda\, St. Kitts and Nevis and St. Lucia.\nThe objective of this initiative is to meaningfully address marginalization\, discrimination and exclusion of persons with disabilities\, LGBTI Caribbean citizens\, women\, girls\, youth and the elderly in national and regional decision-making processes through enhancing CSO capacity and participation.\n\nClick here to join us
