The BCD recently demonstrated the successes that can be derived from NGO/Government/Private Sector partnerships.
Its My Inclusive School Ceremony culminated 6 months of the Council working with 4 schools, St. Martin’s Primary, St. Bartholomew Primary, Harrison College, and Olga Millar Nursery.
Each School with the support of the BCD worked assiduously to make their school inclusive for the children that were already attending as well as in the future.
SPECIAL THANKS to the following partners that believed in this project…Peter and Jan Boos Foundation, Church of Jesus Christ of Later-Day Saints, Peter Moores Trust Barbados.
Ras Saan Rose…your artistic design was awesome and exactly what the teachers hoped for.
Dr. Ramona Archer Bradshaw reinforced that the Ministry of Education is committed to ensuring that all children have access to education.
The largest project of the 4 to be implemented was the Olga Millar Sensory Room. This is a Calming Room that will be used for children who require special attention ensuring that everyone is included. These Calming Rooms are becoming a necessary addition to schools in the future. Olga Millar Sensory Room is the first for a government school.
With an overall cost of the external and internal fixtures of the Room costing just under $40,000 (this includes the Ministry of Education contribution), it is hoped that the Private Sector would see the need and value of this much-needed facility and support the Barbados Council for the Disabled in creating more of these Sensory and Calming spaces that would enhance the delivery of education in many schools.
